Our Future
McLean’s West Coast Launch Shipyard is the only shipyard located on B.C.’s North Coast. This allows us to position ourselves to service both American and Canadian vessels at an economic advantage to our customers. In addition, we are currently looking to expand into a marine terminal service centre for domestic and international shipping.
About Us
McLean’s Shipyard Ltd., established in 1909, is one of B.C.’s longest family run businesses, helmed by four generations of McLeans. With a long and storied history of wooden boat building, the business has evolved primarily into repair of fishing, yacht and service vessels. Current services include haul-outs, boat painting, and Transport Canada (CSI) inspections. As of January 2020, the torch of the family shipyard business was passed to the Davis family of West Coast Launch, who are currently working with the guidance of the McLean family to modernize and diversify the facility, with the goal of remaining the premiere shipyard facility on B.C.’s North Coast for generations to come, while also branching into a marine terminal facility.
Our History
McLean’s Shipyard, established in 1909 by Norman Murdock McLean, is not only one of B.C.’s longest run family businesses (run by four generations of the McLean family), but it is also the last shipyard standing on the North Coast of British Columbia. While presently standing tall at Seal Cove, the original shipyard was built in Cow Bay, between Smile’s Cafe and Love Electric.
